Dr. Cook did a great job helping my autistic, adult son with an issue he had been having with his top incisors. He could have easily charged us to do extensive work that might not last (with my son’s specific issues with gums and bone) or he could refer us to my son’s primary dentist, who had great options/solutions for us that were much less intrusive and expensive. Not many dental professionals would give a case away for the patient’s benefit. I am grateful to him for his choice and honesty. My son has a permanent bridge that he can take care of with a bit of help and he can smile again.

Patient Review

For many years I've had a fear of getting my wisdom teeth removed even though it needed to be done. I had a great experience here at Capital Oral and would recommend this practice. This was my experience... I had the initial consult nearly a year ago. It was very straightforward. We talked about the procedure and looked at the X-rays from my dentist. I had at least 1 impacted wisdom tooth, and was advised to have all 4 removed. Even though the consultation wasn't scary, I had a lot of fear to make the next appointment. Many months after the initial consult, I talked with my psychiatrist about the fear and was prescribed Celexa. I partially credit Celexa for helping tamper my general anxiety about going through with the surgery. There was also a book "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" that she recommended and it also helped me push through the fear. A couple of weeks after I finished the book, I finally made the call to schedule an appointment. They were able to schedule my appointment in 6 days at the earliest. I had many questions for the person who took my call and she patiently and sympathetically answered them all. I was able to pickup the prescription antibiotics, mouthwash, and Valium for anxiety within 2hr. after scheduling. I was told the pain meds would be immediately available for pickup after the surgery (they were!) We picked them up on the way home. When I arrived at 7am, I had to sign a waiver and within 5-10 minutes I was called up. After sitting in the chair, they quickly started me on laughing gas and prepared the equipment to monitor my vitals. The staff were very kind and helpful in keeping my nerves at bay. Once the laughing gas was working they told me it was time for the needle. It was in on the first try and I only felt discomfort for about 4 seconds. The needle was attached to a tube and the Dr. would come in next to administer the general anesthesia. The needle caused no discomfort or pain after those 4 seconds, I couldn't even tell it was there. When the Dr. did come in, I was greeted and they quickly did some final prep. It was here that I asked if they could make sure I'm not saying or doing anything crazy when they brought me back out to me Mom. They said absolutely. It felt like about another minute passed before they connected the general anesthesia to the tube and I was out within 10 seconds. It felt like being a little lightheaded and then just being asleep. No pain or discomfort. When I came to, everything was done. I believe the needle had already been removed when I awoke. The first thing I remember is being walked to the car. Before I was walked out, the Dr. had already come out and told my Mom about any tips for ensuring a smooth recovery. That's pretty much the entire story. It was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. The spots where my wisdom teeth were are a bit sore when the pain medication wears off, but I wouldn't say they're in pain. Taking more pain meds (as prescribed) quickly gets rid of the soreness. Again, I would recommend this practice. It went as well as I could've hoped! If you're as fearful as I was about having this done 1. I hope reading my experience helps even a little 2. It really isn't that bad.
